How to choose the right Hair Extension Technician for you.

Firstly, I think it’s really important to do your research when getting hair extensions. Unfortunately, when not done correctly, hair extensions can really damage your hair, and there are some technicians out there that just want to make a quick buck and cut corners - at the expense of their client.

Take your time during a hair extension consultation and ask all the appropriate questions you need to. A good technician will give you the time you need, actually listen to you and provide you with enough information in order for you to make an informed decision.

How many methods are they trained in? it’s good to have someone who can offer a variety, as one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to hair extension methods - and you don’t want to be in a position where they’ve told you the one method they offer is fine… just because they want to make a sale!!

How long have they done it for? how often are they doing it? practise makes perfect. Fitting hair extensions is a very specialist skill, so going on one course and then doing one client a month/ quarter will mean their skills and knowledge will be limited (absolutely fine - everyone has to start somewhere, but this should be communicated as still learning… and charged as that!!)

It might be worth going to a few consultations in different salons to compare what’s being offered and check out the vibe. Hair extensions take a long time, so you’ll want to make sure it’s a nice atmosphere and you get along with your technician!

Budget is an important factor. Some over charge, some under charge. More expensive doesn’t necessarily mean they’re good, and usually if it’s a lot cheaper - you get what you pay for! this is another reason why it can be good to get several quotes.

I personally have a wide range of clients, of all ages. I have a few clients who love big, long, thick hair and then others just want a more natural finish - a small bit of length, or just volume, whilst getting their natural hair in better condition. There are some finishes that I see technicians do that I personally don’t love for a number of reasons, and will always be honest with clients on that. I have my niche I guess, which isn’t going to be for everybody, and that’s okay!! so find a technician that understands what you’re actually after and can match that.

If you’d like to see if we’re a good match, please feel free to book in for a consultation :)
